Samsung NotePro 12.2 Hands on, Review, Camera, India Price and Features Overview [Video]

Design and Build

First thing first – The NotePro tablet is huge. We have used the conventional 10 inch tablets before, but those extra 2 inches do make a lot of difference. Of course you can forget one handed operation and that also means this device is not meant to partner you on your daily commute. The tablet weighs 753 grams which is quite heavy, but the weight is well balanced. You would notice the weight after you have held the device for 5 to 6 minutes. NotePro also carries the Note series signature stylus which has similar functionality as we have seen on Note 3. The S-Pen also works on capacitive buttons. The back cover has the faux leather finish, with stitching – something we like in the design language. Besides the inflated size, rest of the design follows what we have already seen in this generation Note devices. The Super clear LCD display features 2560 x 1600 pixels across it which makes it an absolute beauty. We couldn’t notice any pixelation in the crisp display and the color calibration was stunning too. The Magazine UX with all the details also seems spacious in this one and adds to the excitement.

Camera and Internal Storage

It’s hard to imagine someone using this form factor to shoot images , nevertheless Samsung has provided with an 8 MP shooter at the back bestowed with an LED flash and Full HD video recording capability. The 2 MP shooter at the front is also capable of Full HD video recording and as you can see in the Hands On Video above, the quality leaves nothing to complain about. The Internal storage is 32 GB/ 64 GB and you will get a MicroSD card slot for up to 64 GB. No issues here, storage will work out just fine even for power users. The system software will take a large chunk of the internal storage (around 5.5 GB).

Battery, Chipset and OS

The battery capacity is 9,500 mAh and Samsung claims this will last for 12 hours of multimedia content and up to 131 hours of music playback. The chipset which we will see in Indian version is Exynos 5 Octa, backed by 3 GB RAM, which is not as snappy as Snapdragon 800 in LTE variant. Apart from some minor stutter, we didn’t notice any lag on the interface. The software is Android 4.4 KitKat with Magzine UX on top. The Magzine UX is lot more informative and you will see various Apps and other info neatly arranged in Boxes. The Multi Windows in this tablet lets you play with 4 apps simultaneously. Samsung has also included several productivity apps and a pc like keyboard to further facilitate multi tasking and productivity aspect.

Conclusion and Overview

The NotePro is a large sized Note Tablet with an S-Pen, in case you are looking for one. The hardware is top notch and we also liked the software. Usually Windows based tablets are what people use for productivity and if Samsung wants to change that trend, the price should have been more reasonable. It’s hard to comprehend what Samsung is aiming at with this form factor and whether there is a market for this 12.2 Inch Tablet in India.
