Set your IP Address Manually

When your device is connected to the Wi-Fi, you are usually provided with an IP address, and this task is done by the DHCP. The IP configuration problem hints that something is faulty and the DHCP is not receiving an  IP address. You can solve this issue by adding an IP address manually.

Right click Start and then choose network connections. From the Network status tab, tap on the “Change adapter options” to find the network adapters. You can find your connection either wired or wireless. Right click and choose properties. Choose Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then hit the Properties option Check the “use the following IP address” option and then type your IP address(192.168.1.x) where x is a number, Subnet Mask(255.255.255.0), and Default Gateway (192.168.1.1).  For the DNS server, you can use the values 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Hit Ok.

Removing your Antivirus Software

There have been reports that Antivirus software can cause this error. Therefore, you can try switching to another antivirus and see if the problem is solved. Or else, remove the Antivirus entirely to check if the error persists. Avast and AVG are two software that have been known to cause this issue. Uninstalling the antivirus is not as simple as it sounds. They usually leave behind certain files. Therefore we recommend using a professional program or tool to aid with the removal.

Change the Number of DHCP Users

Almost all of the routers have a predefined limit on the number of devices that can be connected using DHCP. If you are someone with lots of online devices at home, it is possible that you have exceeded this limit, which in turn is causing this error when your pc tries to fetch an address. To solve this issue, you will need to access your router and search for the DHCP settings, and then manually increase the limit.

Perform a Clean Boot

Hold down the Windows Key + R key together, type in msconfig and hit the Enter key. Choose Selective startup and then deselect the Load startup items option. Head to the Services tab, select the Hide all Microsoft services option and then tap on the Disable all option. Move over to the Startup tab and tap on the Open Task Manager option, then hit the Apply button and click OK. Right-click on each item from the list and select the Disable option. Exit Task Manager and then tap on Apply and OK from the Windows Configuration window Finally, restart your pc.

Make Sure that DHCP is Turned on

Open the Network Connections window. Identify your network adapter and right click on it and then select the Diagnose option. Wait until the scan is completed.

Make Sure that the Security Type Matches

Occasionally, the IP configuration error can be caused by your security type, so ensure that the security type on your computer matches with the one set by the router. First of all, open the router settings page and then head to the wireless section and understand  what kind of security is being used. Now confirm that the wireless adapter is using the same security type.
